Among Ashes to Redefine Survival Horror with a Meta Twist this December
Indie solo developer Rat Cliff Games has officially announced its highly anticipated first-person meta-survival horror game, Among Ashes, expected to launch for both console and PC.
Among Ashes delves into metafictional horror by exploring a haunted video game and the unsettling narrative behind its creation. Set on a stormy night in the early 2000s, players receive a link to ‘Night Call,’ a chilling horror game discovered by a friend. As they engage with the game, eerie events unfold within their own home, leading to a growing sense of dread that someone—or something—is watching their every move.
This innovative title features a unique meta-framing device that allows players to navigate a complete retro-inspired survival horror experience within the larger context of another first-person horror game. With a range of distinct presentation styles, unexpected twists, engaging gameplay mechanics, and brain-teasing puzzles, Among Ashes transports players back to the turn of the millennium, offering a spine-chilling dose of nostalgia.
In the retro-styled survival horror segment titled Night Call, players will explore the eerie Stoker Manor—solving intricate puzzles while battling nightmarish creatures that roam its twisting corridors. Meanwhile, in the real world, they’ll grapple with dark entities that have latched onto this mysterious game as they race to uncover the truth behind its origins and its mystery creator.
Rat Cliff Games has also released a new trailer for Among Ashes, showcasing how the game ‘blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, revealing unimaginable horrors that seep out from behind the screen.’
Players eager to taste the haunting experience can try out the demo available on Steam. Among Ashes is set to officially launch on 10 December 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
